DRAFT REVIEW: Brutal Bitter
RATING
95

Rogue has brewed many different beers, it's possible that only brewmaster John Maier knows exactly how many different styles he's created in the 19 years since the brewery opened its doors. One thing is certain: Most of Rogue's brews don't fit neatly into one style descriptor. Brutal Bitter is no different; it uses American hops in this distinctly English style. Rogue brews this beer with crystal hops, which give the aroma and flavor a clear piney inflection without being harsh. The flavor's earthiness is complemented by a subtle caramel sweetness and a moderate nuttiness. The simple body is surprising given the amount of hops used. This is certainly the beer to try if you are going for a hop-heavy ESB.
