DRAFT REVIEW: ESB Amber Ale
RATING
84

This murky brew glows orange and is topped off with a sturdy, off-white head. A thick toffee aroma fills the air, and sweetens darker toasted bread and earthy hop scents. As in the aroma, toffee dominates the taste: It rides over a light layer of toast before pushing up against earthy hop notes in the middle. A rise of bitterness runs down the middle of the tongue, but loses momentum as it works its way through the rich toffee sweetness. This beer could use a stronger hop presence for better balance, but its dry finish and lingering sweetness still make it a palate pleaser.
