This tawny brew’s creamy head can’t contain its powerful aroma. Dried dark cherry scents balloon alongside wafts of chocolate and caramel. A thin, bready layer runs across the tongue, paving the way for sweet dark cherry notes to stretch to the back. Herbal clove flecks try to defy the beer’s fruit sweetness, but the combination proves too robust for the malt base. Although this beer’s interplay of fruit and herbs is enjoyable, a stronger caramel presence would add that layer of malt complexity the style’s known for.
