DRAFT REVIEW: Thames Welsh ESP
Thames Welsh ESP
Felinfoel Brewery Co Ltd
Llanelli, Wales
Extra Special/Strong Bitter
ABV: 6.0%
IBU: Unknown
RATING
88
One of only two Welsh beers available in the United States, this fine ESB also happens to be from the first brewery to can their beer in the United Kingdom and the second brewery to do so in the world. Felinfoel still cans many of its beers, although our sample came from a half-liter bottle. The head on this beer is minimal and won't stick around for long -- suprising considering how many hop flowers are typically used in an ESB. The beer's taste is initially heavy and very malt-dense. There doesn't seem to be enough bitterness to balance out the sweetness of this ale, but this beer is obviously attenuated well and has a warming feel from the alcohol. This quality brew is tricky to find, but if you do see it, be sure to pick it up.
