DRAFT REVIEW: New World Porter
RATING
90

The cream-color head atop this dark porter dissipates quickly, but the aroma is anything but ephemeral. Breathe in savory molasses, roasted grain, dark chocolate, and a touch of sweet fruit aromas to whet the palate. Up front, this beer is all sweet malt; then, the flavor’s taken over by a rush of hop bitterness that leans more toward earthy, grassy flavors than fruity. As the bitterness fades, a second wave of heavy malt sweetness swells, and eventually acquiesces to a thin, slightly chalky finish with a lingering roasted quality. New World’s definitely a porter best suited for hop lovers, but its medium-thin mouthfeel and savory qualities makes it universally drinkable.
