As part of Avery’s Dictator Series (which also features The Kaiser and The Maharaja), The Czar further demonstrates Avery’s deft handling of powerful beers. This brew is dark brown and very clear with a sturdy russet head. The aroma hums with honey, toffee, and a wallop of alcohol. It greets the tongue with malt candy sweetness, followed by rich caramel and honey notes that keep the assertive hops in check. The Czar is full-bodied with lots of alcohol and moderate carbonation. For as big and sweet as the beer is, it finishes quite dry with a hot alcohol and caramel presence that lasts into the aftertaste. |
