This is a deep orange, hazy beer with a rocky, dense head. The aroma is reminiscent of old pears, with slightly musty, yet sweet notes. Upon drinking this beer, you begin to understand the “imperial” aspects of it, but at a sacrifice to the saison qualities. The taste begins with bold, fruity sweetness, like poached apples and cinnamon. Moving into a mild medicinal character, the beer finishes sweet with an overt alcohol note that strikes the top of the throat. The hops are dull, only tickling the sides of the mouth with spicy bitterness. This is a full-bodied saison, but the mouthfeel leaves little impression except that it is gently carbonated. If you’re looking for a refreshing beer, this is not the best option, but it’s a strong beer that stimulates the palate.
