DRAFT REVIEW: Vlaemse Bock
RATING
88

This beer may be named in honor of the German brewing tradition, but otherwise, it’s as Belgian as they come. Vlaemse Bock pours a very dark brown with ruby highlights and a big taupe crown. The aroma is pronounced with heavy alcohol and smooth raisin and plum notes in front of the spicy, peppery yeast character. The flavor’s complex, from the initial chocolate-toffee sweetness to the subtle peach and pepper notes that kick in later. For a dubbel, this brew has an assertive hop presence, with earthy flavors and moderate bitterness. Rich and full-bodied, this brew’s healthy dose of alcohol is a natural fit.
