Koningshoeven Dubbel Trappist Ale
Belgian Dubbel
ABV: 7.0% IBU: Unknown |
Barkeeps might be confused when you ask for a Koningshoeven, because only a year ago, this beer was called La Trappe (still the case in Europe). The recipe hasn't changed though, so what you taste today is the same time-tested Trappist beer many have come to love. Subtle aromas of dried fruit and even a bit of chocolate in the nose distinguish this dubbel. This beer might also surprise you with its warming alcohol notes and phenolic spiciness, an interesting chewy toffee character, and even some banana bread tastes. What really sets this beer apart, however, is its drying hoppiness in the finish. Perhaps the beer's only shortcomings is its mouthfeel, which could be more robust for the style. |
