Until 1978, Augustiner monks brewed this Belgian-style ale at a monastery in Gent. Brewery Van Steenberge obtained the rights to continue brewing this classic Belgian Dubbel, and luckily for beer fans around the world, the flavor is still basically the same. The aroma opens with a clean clove spiciness from the phenols created by the Belgian yeast. A mild dried fruit aroma nicely complements this spiciness. While the rocky head is a beauty, don't gaze too long or you might miss the clean malt and crisp fresh orange flavors. Despite the 8% ABV, there is no alcohol flavor in the final product... which is just one more reason to enjoy this gorgeous brew.
