DRAFT REVIEW: Great Northern Porter
RATING
88

There weren't many breweries in the upper Midwest in the mid-'80s, but one of the few, Summit Brewery, opened in 1986 and is still a big success today. It produces some great ales and, with its simple but strong flavor, light body, and laid-back aroma, this porter is among the finest. This ale pours a soft brown color with a light tan head. You'll have to find some soft roasted notes as well as a vinous character. Great Northern is significantly stronger when you actually drink it and displays some additional cocoa and chocolate mousse flavors. Finishing this beer off is a smooth dryness from the use of fresh hops that complement the mild profile.
