DRAFT REVIEW: Lakefront IPA
RATING
83

Lakefront IPA’s a bit of a surprise as it pours into the glass: Beneath a resistant, fluffy white head is an opaque, burnt orange beer. The hazy brew floats a grassy, perfumy hop bouquet that mingles with sweet-bread malt wisps. This is an IPA that successfully showcases its flavors: On the front of the tongue, bready malts with toffee sweetness hit first, then pool into the tongue’s middle. As malts work the front, a breeze of citrusy, grassy hop flavors pass over, adding brightness to the mouth. Although the flavors are all in place, this doesn’t muster the bitter finish expected; instead, a lingering malt sweetness is left to dominate the mouth long into the finish.
