DRAFT REVIEW: Redhook ESB
RATING
90

There’s no denying Redhook’s flagship beer is an American interpretation of this classic English style; unpretentious and playful, it’s a pleasure to drink. From the bright orange brew, a grassy, citrusy hop aroma bursts forth, nearly overshadowing the subsequent caramel scent. The aroma’s a prelude for what’s to follow. A sweet, caramel flavor, with biscuity undertones hits first, but is quickly overcome by a chasing swell of grassy, citrusy hops. While bitterness envelops the tongue, a creamy mouthfeel persists; it’s both enjoyable and surprising as it tempers the bitterness from entering the IPA realm, even into the dry finish.
