DRAFT REVIEW: Russian Imperial Stout
RATING
89

The beer is black in the glass with garnet hues peeking out, all topped off with a big, coffee-brown head. Filled with lovely plum and raisin flavors, the aroma is given texture by husky grains and smooth alcohol in the background. Sprecher’s flavor is dense with chocolate, coffee and the fruity notes found in the aroma. Mild astringency from the beer’s liberal use of barley gently strikes the cheeks, and the hops lend just enough bitterness to keep the beer balanced. This is a full-bodied brew with creamy carbonation, elevated alcohol, and lingering chocolate notes.
