Caldera’s Pale Ale is yet another example of the simple pleasures that can come out of both 12-ounce cans and the frequently neglected beer region of Southern Oregon. It pours pale gold with brilliant clarity and a foamy, white head, and the aroma is evocative of fresh-cut grass with a slight alcohol tinge. Taking a mouthful of the ale is the best way to go, as it encourages you to really appreciate the phases of the flavor. At the outset, pale malt, hints of fresh bread, and minor graininess will wash over your tongue before moving into juicy grapefruit and grassy hop flavors touched by an assertive hop bitterness. The beer finishes nicely -- dry with clean hop flavors lasting well into the aftertaste. Caldera is crisp, refreshing and has a distinctive Northwest quality.
