Though it’s known for its strictly-to-style brews, Rodenbach’s Grand Cru is produced using a mixed fermentation, yielding a lager-ale hybrid. The unique craftsmanship along with oak-barrel aging gives the beer its fascinating characteristics: The aroma smells of cherry, while the flavor is brandylike, sour with a touch of sweetness. Still, the beer holds its balance, and a dry finish makes for a lighter than expected finish.
