DRAFT REVIEW: Samichlaus Bier (2005)
Samichlaus Bier (2005)
Castle Eggenberg Brewery
Vorchdorf, Austria
Doppelbock
ABV: 14.0%
IBU: Unknown
RATING
91
Once the strongest beer in the world, this brew was actually thought to be lost forever when the Hurlimann Brewery was bought out in the mid-90s. Lucky for us, it's back just in time for the holidays! This lager is brewed once a year on December 6th (Austria's St. Nicholas's Day) and only made available during the holiday season the following year. The beer pours brilliantly clear, with toasted and caramelized notes in the nose. Upon taking a sip, the drinker encounters a complex, almost overwhelming fullness that can only come from such an intricate aging method.
