An incredibly dense head locks in all but a hint of roasted malt and quiet earthy hop scents. However, on the tongue Dark Star’s robust and complex: Coffee, chocolate and caramel come on strong, while sharp roasted malts lend a bite to the swallow; hops add subtle earthiness throughout. Despite the big flavor, the mouthfeel’s a touch thin for the style; the beer wraps up with a pleasantly dry, clean finish.
