DRAFT REVIEW: Back Burner
RATING
96

This crimson barleywine emits a sticky malty aroma laden with toffee and cherry scents; light floral hops perk up the bouquet. Sweet orange notes swirl with toffee on the tip of the tongue as a layer of toasted bread runs down the middle. Dark cherry tones grow louder throughout the swallow, adding even more sweetness to the mix. All of the rich malts are smartly matched by sturdy bitterness, creating a remarkably smooth swallow. Light peppery alcohol spice snakes through the malt base, but never turns hot—a feat considering the beer’s high ABV. A long, dry caramel-orange finish seals Back Burner as one dangerously drinkable beer.
