DRAFT REVIEW: Mountain Standard Double Black IPA
RATING
91

This opaque, dark brown beer wears a heavy tan head and bursts with a rich aroma of toasty malts accented with orange rind and grassy hops. Sweet caramel and creamy milk chocolate notes land on the tongue first; as they wash back, juicy orange emerges, blending with the sweet malts for a candied sensation. Robust bitterness is amped up by subtle roasted notes, which create a nice edge on the tongue. While roastier than other examples, this brew’s enduring malt character and citrus hops illustrate how the two ingredients can find equal footing, even in a bold version of the emerging style.
