Miami’s new brews
March/April 2014

Keep your eye on this trio: Big names are launching new brew in Miami.

MIA BREWING

Who: Michael Demetrus, formerly of Chicago’s Finch’s Beer Co. What: The former Windy City brewer arrived in the tropics last fall to helm the tanks of Miami’s newest brewery. Along with assistant brewer Piero Rodriguez, he’s now churning out a range of styles, from sessionable kölsches to chewy oatmeal stouts to hoppy IPAs, at MIA’s production facility just west of Miami in Doral, Fla. Launched: in January.

CONCRETE BEACH BREWING

Who: Alchemy & Science, Boston Beer Co.’s satellite brewery incubator. What: A warehouse tasting room/growler bar in the heart of the city’s beer-filled Wynwood Arts District serving up house beer and multicultural events for the ’hood’s eclectic crowd. Watch for bottles by the end of the year. Launching: this summer.

GRAVITY BREWLAB

Who: A team of Miami’s wildest homebrewers (led by Diego Ganoza) turning pro. What: An arts district brewpub and a permanent home for beers that have already grown a fan base at Florida festivals. Watch for out-there stuff like smoked sours, chili-spiked Berliner weisses and cherry ciders. Launching: any minute. Keep up with the launch at Gravity’s website.
