DRAFT REVIEW: Old Gnarleywine
RATING
96

This brilliantly clear orange brew wears a fluffy white head, which casts a complex malt aroma into the air: Thick, bready scents laced with caramel and nuts balloon in the nose before a blast of bright, grassy hops imbues the bouquet. The brew is wonderfully smooth on the tongue as bready, caramel flavors spread across the palate, laying a foundation for citrusy hop flavors to bound over. A wave of bitterness and alcohol heat sweeps through the mouth, tempering the sugary-sweet malts that build with each sip. It finishes sweet on the tongue with just a gentle, soft alcohol warmth in the chest. For such a young barleywine, the flavors are remarkably rounded and cohesive.
