This is the world’s original weizenbock, or as the brewery calls it, the world’s original wheat-doppelbock. It’s a clear, golden brew that has a foamy, white head. The aroma is certainly big with deep caramel, vanilla, and banana tempting the nose. The flavor is rich throughout, from the first wash of toffee sweetness to the dark plums and vanilla highlights. The brew’s wheat presence is most notable in the finish, along with a strong alcohol warmth. Aventinus is full-bodied and has a dry finish that does little to temper the brew’s long-lasting caramel and banana flavors.
