The "weizen" in Weizenbock refers to the fact that Flying Dog uses wheat in the brew's mash. Whilte this is somewhat uncommon, it isn't nearly as uncommon as making a bock style beer with yeast ale. Generally, bocks are brewed using decoction mashing which makes the malt quite intricate, and lager years, which makes beer crisp. Flying Dog brews Weizenbock with ale yeast, making this beer significantly spicier and fruitier than your average bock. Unfortunately, they also use green bottles, giving the beer a slight skunkiness that's noticeable in the aroma. The wheat finishes this orange-brown beer with a smooth, soft mouthfeel that makes it easy to finish the entire bottle.
