DRAFT REVIEW: Green Lakes Organic Ale
RATING
89

Deschutes’ sustainable mindset prompted it to craft Green Lakes, a beer made with fish-friendly farming practices and all-natural ingredients. In addition to the feel-good story, it’s a solid brew. Clear, light gold liquid sits beneath a creamy head. Dry, husky barley wafts to the nose first; grassy, earthy hops follow in accordance. Lightly toasted whole-grain bread crust fills the palate, but it doesn’t have enough girth to keep the assertive hops in check. Green grass and citrus flavors overrun the tongue, bringing a sharp bitterness that lasts into the aftertaste. In all, the flavors are slightly unbalanced, but the beer still sums up with a nice, dry finish.
