Biere de garde is a French style of beer that is quite similar to the saison style brewed in Belgium. The biggest difference between the two comes in the malt profile. While both are refreshing and crisp for ales, biere de gardes have richer, fuller bodies. In this beer, the malt plays a very significant role, but the fruit aspect is its most prevalent character and is varied and rich throughout the swallow -- you'll notice hints of plums, pears, and peaches. The mustiness is wonderful in this beer, and while not very common to most tongues or noses, it provides a soft quality. The head lasts an incredibly long time and will probably coat your glass even after the beer is gone.
