Similar to champagne, if a lambic isn't produced in a very specific part of Belgium, it isn't technically a lambic. But just like some of the best sparkling wines hail from California, that doesn't mean that a beer can't be of great quality and taste comparable to some of the best lambics. Even though Melbourn Bros. is located in England, it still makes a great beer. The aroma starts subtly but gains strength and freshness as it breathes. And even though the color is dingy red and the head is weak, the flavor is well-balanced. The sweetness from the fruit sets off the sourness well. There is a hint of what smells like a children's strawberry vitamin in the aroma, but this is minor in the flavor. Our guess is that this beer would be exceptional if the brewers used real strawberries instead of juice.
