DRAFT REVIEW: Smithwick's
Smithwick's
Dundalk Brewery (Harp)
Dundalk, Ireland
Irish Red Ale
ABV: 5.0%
IBU: Unknown
RATING
91
Diageo owns this brand (along with Guinness and Bailey's) and brews it at a few breweries, but the Dundalk location is where most of the Smithwick's is made. Ireland's most popular ale has a malty profile with some estery fruit aromas. The color is deep copper and the head is thin but persistent. The flavor profile is very robust yet clean, and while it isn't complex, it is still good. It is no wonder this is Ireland's leading ale, considering how smooth the mouthfeel is. And though this bottle was great, it's even better on tap at an Irish bar.
