DRAFT REVIEW: 8 Ball Stout
RATING
85

Brewers are, in general, an unattractive bunch: They rarely shave, have a general unkempt appearance, and are often covered in caustic cleaners and caked-on yeast. So anytime we can walk into a brewery and see a woman ramping up a multiple-step infusion mash, we get a little envious of the other brewers there. Well, not only does Lost Coast have several female employees, it was founded by two ambitious women back in 1986 when there were even less of the fairer sex in the brewing industry. They create quality beers, and the 8 Ball Stout is no exception. Its aroma has rich mocha notes with vinous scents, while the tan head is weak but persistent. The flavor is reminiscent of burnt grains, which is slightly at odds with the higher hop flavor and bitterness. It's a good brew, but it would be even better if the body were a tad more forceful.
