DRAFT REVIEW: Big Bear Black Stout
RATING
94

Big Bear reveals its brute force from the start in both its appearance and aroma. This pitch-black brew claws at the nose with heavy roast, chocolate and caramel scents. The hops aren’t left behind, though, as zesty orange notes also push into the bouquet, exposing this big beer’s West Coast roots. As the initial malt wave descends on the tongue, an enticing complexity unfolds: Chocolate and fruity raisin tastes sing above the deep, roasted base, while citrusy and bitter hops arise. The malt-hop duo not only delivers a scrumptious array of flavors, but works in unison to leave the mouth dry and ready for another sip.
