Here at DRAFT, we'd never suggest that a good beer should change. Why mess with something that works? But we were pretty happy when we found out that for the first time, Samuel Smith was going to bottle its Winter Welcome in an amber bottle, eliminating any potential skunkiness. This fine brew starts off with mostly malty aromas and surprisingly, not a lot of spiciness. There is a slight hint of licorice, but overall it is a simple bouquet. The flavor is similarly unfussy with a bready, biscuity taste and some roasted notes. The mouthfeel is great; there is just enough body and a good amount of carbonation that produces a soft, white head. While not the most complex winter brew, it's one of the most enjoyable.
