DRAFT REVIEW: Shipwreck Porter
RATING
88

This legend begins with brewer John Osborn shipwrecked on a deserted island. Somehow, the industrious brewer salvaged enough supplies to brew a strong beer, which he then aged in whiskey barrels. The story of Osborn inspired the brewers at Arcadia to include Shipwreck Porter in part of their so-called "big beer" series. Shipwreck entices the nose with plenty of fruity esters and a pleasant root beer and cocoa aroma. The thick brown head gives way to a rather sweet brew, touched by merlot notes and mild alcohol warmth. Although the sweetness is a bit overbearing, and the brew possesses slightly sour notes, we'd nonetheless be delighted to be marooned with this fetching beer.
