The art of the beer glass

Why one of beer’s hottest collectibles is empty.

Artist Daniel Stewart de-stresses the liquid way. “Sometimes, at the end of the day, you have to have a beer and talk about whatever campaign you’re making,” says the co-founder of Georgia design firm Wier/Stewart. “Artists, writers—anybody can relate to what sitting down and having a beer will do for your creativity and mentality.” But when he printed his nickname for beer—“creativity fluid”—on a pint glass, he ordered just 24 to sell, not realizing there were so many like-minded drinkers. He ran out. Now, he partners with artists around the country to release limited-edition designs; only 200 of each glass are made, and they’re strictly sold in pairs ($20 for two). The Creativity Fluid project includes a glass by Bandito Design Co. (a.k.a. Ohio artist and poster designer Ryan Brinkerhoff) that features a skull; a nod to the artist’s favorite beer, Rogue Dead Guy Ale. The design on Morning Breath studio’s glass echoes the dental imagery that threads Brooklyn artists Doug Cunningham and Jason Noto’s collages. Watch for a new glass each month, and get ‘em while you can.
