Dark American Lager

Some of the world’s most mass-produced dark beers fall into this category; they’re among the most drinkable brown beers made. Fundamentally a sweeter, very slightly caramelly version of a standard or premium lager, these medium-bodied beers contain barley and, often, corn or rice adjuncts. Though hops may show up in the aroma, they’re virtually nonexistent in the taste. Mouthfeels should be very smooth but quite carbonated.
Pair: Meaty French dips and roast beef are delightful complements to these beers, while creamy cheeses like brie and chevre make nice contrasts.
