Draft Editorial Internship Program

DRAFT Magazine offers a comprehensive editorial internship program for motivated students seeking a career in magazine journalism. Interns work closely with DRAFT\’s editorial staff and receive practical experience in fact-checking, research, writing for print and the Web, AP style, and the editorial process of a national consumer magazine. Interns are challenged daily with real-world roles in the department and are encouraged to perform, develop ideas and solve problems independently.

PROGRAM EMPHASIS: Editorial internships focus on the following disciplines. (We get our own coffee.)

  • Mastery of AP style
  • Writing for print and Web mediums while working closely with DRAFT editors.
  • Fact-checking
  • Learning the general editorial process of a national consumer magazine

OPTIONAL DISCIPLINES: Editorial interns may select an additional focus (or several) to augment the general program. Optional disciplines include:

  • Copyediting
  • Digital media
  • Editorial administration (contracts and more)
  • Market editing/forming PR relationships

ELIGIBILITY: Editorial internships are for current students only, though a journalism major is not required. Internships may be taken for credit, though credit is not mandatory. Hours can be tailored to match university requirements; interns typically work between 10 and 15 hours per week, on a set schedule. Applicants need not be 21 years of age; interns are restricted from consuming alcohol on DRAFT\’s premises. Interns must be able to work on-site at our Phoenix office at least two days per week.
