A juicy grapefruit and pine hop aroma with a pineapple twist mixes with subtly sweet caramel scents above this muted orange brew’s feathery white head. As the liquid splashes on the tongue, caramel spreads out to support a tempered bitterness that quickly makes a presence. Grapefruit and resinous, piney hop flavors take control of the mouth mid-sip and pool on the tongue with the somewhat sticky caramel flavors. While bitterness keeps the flavors in check, there isn’t enough to wipe the palate clean. Thus, this highly quaffable, flavorful imperial IPA finishes with a balance of sweet malts and citrusy, piney hops that remain on the palate after the swallow. Perhaps not bitter enough for fanatics, Pure Hoppiness remains a very approachable imperial IPA.
