Old Ale
ABV: 10.0%
IBU: 77
RATING
92
This beer is a touch bigger in alcohol than is appropriate for the style, but is a remarkable beer all around, earning a gold medal at the 2007 GABF for old ales. It pours reddish-amber with a creamy, off-white head. The aroma bursts with English malts that are nutty, toasted, and rich. Along with this malt character are grassy, spicy hops and a stiff alcohol nose. There’s a complex interplay of toffee, chocolate, and toasted barley on the tongue with a firm hop bitterness and cracked black pepper taste. Old Woody is a massive, full-bodied beer with stiff alcohol presence that warms the chest. The brew ultimately finishes slightly sweet with a mild raisin aftertaste.
