While stark may be defined as "desolate or barren," it can also mean extreme. Stark Porter is certainly that, with incredible notes of molasses, toffee, chocolate, and caramel in the aroma. In fact, it has one of the most enticing aromas we have ever encountered. The rich nose is beautifully complemented by a solid tan head and a mesmerizing shadowy hue. To top it all off, the flavor is no disappointment for those who take the time to savor the presentation. It starts with a complex malt profile that shows the same flavors that are evident in the nose. The smoothness of the chocolate and molasses is perfectly balanced by the light hop flavor and bitterness and lasts beautifully into the finish. Carlsberg Brewing, the new owner of D. Carnegie & Co., is doing an amazing job of keeping up the rich traditions of this brewery that dates back to 1836.
