Hot tables: September 2013

The best seats in beer right now.

1. A table by the bleachers at L.A.’s Public School 310 where composition book menus corral eclectic craft beers and elevated grub, and happy hour is wisely known as “recess.”

2. Pulled up to the copper bar at Hunger N Thirst, a gastropub-meets-grocery-meets-bottle shop inside a modern Lancaster, Pa., farmhouse. Lunch on the open-faced ham-and-egg panino and Helltown Mischievous brown ale, then shop the attached market for charcuterie.

3. Shoveling Gouda Stout Mac & Cheese at WHYM Craft Beer Café in Portsmouth, N.H., and choosing between the “Neighbors” beer menu (brews the likes of Throwback and Blue Lobster) or the “Long Distance Relationships” list (Ommegang and more).

4. Parked at the oyster bar at The Pearl in Columbus, Ohio, shooting down bivalves and exploring the excellently abbreviated 50-beer list. A house oyster stout (of course) just debuted.

5. Under the beer-bottle chandeliers at the Stone Brewing World Bistro & Gardens–Liberty Station outpost; the new San Diego, Calif., digs are jaw-dropping, with 55,000 square feet enveloping dining space, gardens, bocce ball courts and an outdoor cinema. Order a Stone 11.11.11 Vertical Epic Ale aged in white wine barrels with mussels steamed with Stone Cali-Belgique IPA.
