Your Daily Pint for Tuesday, Sept. 23, 2014, is: SAMUEL ADAMS HARVEST SAISON
What it is: A 6%-ABV multi-malt spin on a classic saison
Multi-malt?: Traditional saisons feature barley and, sometimes, wheat; this version employs barley and wheat, plus oats and rye.
What it tastes like: A fuller, more malt-forward saison. The oats beef up the body and smooth out the swallow, while rye graininess connects the rest of the malt to the yeast spice. All that malt tones down the typical saison brightness a bit, which seems perfectly appropriate for an autumnal version of the Belgian farmhouse ale. It’s an excellent “fall” beer for the anti-pumpkin crowd.
How to get it: It’s only in bottles, and you can only get it in the brewery’s Harvest Collection mix pack, which also includes Boston Lager, OktoberFest and Harvest Pumpkin Ale.
