Fish Gollum Precious Pils
Your Daily Pint for Friday, Oct. 3, 2014, is: FISH GOLLUM PRECIOUS PILS
What it is: A 9.5%-ABV imperial pilsner
What it tastes like: It has the hops of an IPA (85 IBUs!), the crackery malts of a pils, and the booze of a barleywine. The hops read grassy, earthy and bitter; the alcohol flavor connects with the crisp malt to lift the bitterness from the palate. It starts clean, but the swallow builds into a warm, hefty swallow.
You guessed it: It’s part of a line of Hobbit beers; rounding out the trio are Smaug Stout and Bolg Belgian Tripel.
So precious: Drink it now; imperial pilsners don’t age particularly well.
