UPDATED: Feds expected to ban alcoholic energy drinks

The Associated Press reports that the Food and Drug Administration is expected to find that caffeine is an unsafe food additive to alcoholic drinks, following the footsteps of four states (Washington, Michigan, Utah and Oklahoma) that have already banned them. The FDA ruling, which could come as soon as this week, “should be the nail in the coffin of these dangerous and toxic drinks,” says Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y.

UPDATE: Phusion Projects, maker of caffeinated malt beverage Four Loko, announced it will remove caffeine, guarana and taurine from its products.
