Beer Runner
50 days of beer and running

Aside from basic human functions like breathing and sleeping, I’m not sure I’ve ever done anything for 50 straight days before.

But today, I’ve ran and drank beer every day for more than seven consecutive weeks. Hopefully I’m just getting started.

My running workouts on DailyMile

There’s been some highs and lows these last few weeks.

We’ve been lucky enough to have some amazing weather in November in Wisconsin, including a gorgeous lunchtime run on Day 36.

On Day 41, I ran an 18:10 5k and placed third overall in a local race. Pretty sure that’s the fastest 5K I’ve run since high school, and it was two minutes faster than a 5K race I ran this summer.

I credited the two New Glarus Unplugged Apple Ales I had the night before the race. Incredible beer.

Meanwhile, the blog I wrote about 50 reasons to love running for World Run Day was one of the most popular posts that ever appeared on the Beer Runner.

And I continue to have a blast coaching Team Challenge for the Rock ‘n Roll Half Marathon in Vegas, now only two weeks away on Dec. 5th.

It hasn’t always been that fun. On Day 38, I had mac and cheese, half a burger and a PBR, but still managed to pound out 3.25 miles without puking.

Some days I just didn’t get to run as long as I wanted, due to work or family obligations. But I still got it in one way or another, however I could.

And right now, I’ve been battling a pretty bad cold for about a week. Some nights I wake up and can’t breathe. That doesn’t really make you want to run.

But tonight, I’m drinking another Unplugged Apple Ale (it keeps the doctor away) and a New Glarus Wisconsin Bock (it’s getting cold outside). Life could be a whole lot worse.

So that’s 50 days down, 315 days to go. Let’s keep it going.
