Regardless of the fact that I live in the desert, the one environmentally friendly act I can’t seem to master is the quick shower. In the morning, it’s straight out of bed for a 20-minute blast of near-boiling water. Add in the afternoon run and that’s another 15 to 20 minutes of water down the drain. I know, it’s horrible. However, a recent conversation about shower time reintroduced a long-forgotten concept to me: the shower beer. I remember years back, when a beer in the shower pre-empted the pregame, which fell before the party, which preceded the after-party. What I didn’t realize was that the shower beer’s still a go-to habit for not just 30-somethings, but people also into good beer. A quick Google search brought me to this: the Beer in the Shower Facebook page. It has nearly 10,000 fans. Browse through the photos and you’ll see various ways people store their beer mid-rinse. And online enthusiasm doesn’t stop there. If you want to make your own bottle holder, head over to Instructables.com for a how-to, or pick up one of these.
So how many of you tip back a beer while you’re washing up, and what’s the best beer to pair with a bar of soap? Perhaps this is the one place where proper glassware should be avoided.
Wikipedia deleted the entry for Shower Beer that I created.
Showers are one of the few places I prefer a cocktail over a beer. Hot water, cool ice: Refreshing.
yes, shower beers are long and storied tradition. the real debate should be bottle vs. can. Bottle is less likely to get soapy water in it. Can is less likely to fall and shatter.
I appreciate a quality crafted beer and many times have taken on into the bathroom before entering the shower. I have yet to take one INTO the shower with me.
I enjoy shower beers usually when I’m showering following an evening rec league game of ultimate. Showers and beers are the two best things to follow up a couple of hours of running, and it’s hard to decide which I want more, so I usually just have both at the same time.
Beer in the shower? Hell yeah! This used to be a daily ritual for me. In fact, my old room mate would get mad at me for occasionally leave a bottle or two on top of the shower ledge. When I worked landscaping, I would pick up a 4 pack Sprecher Special Amber on the way home. I just could not wait to crack one open. At the same time, I was hot, dirty, sweaty, and stinky, and could not wait to shower. So why not do both? It feels great to tilt your head back under the shower while taking a gulp off of a cold refreshing brew. That’s when it all began for me. Then I started doing it to “prime the pump” before going out for night of drinking. It has been awhile since I have had a beer in the shower. I think it’s more of a summertime activity for me. I guess I’ll have to give it a try this winter. Cheers!
definately
A beer in the shower is one of the best tasting beers. There’s something about taking a hot shower while putting back a cold one at the end of the day. I’m currently trying to design a beer holster to put up in my shower. You should have an article in your magazine on who has the best “shower beer holster” where the readers email you their picture…
