Jesse Weber explains that to an aid station worker at mile 25 of an ultra marathon—right after he sips a Pabst Blue Ribbon.
Weber filmed himself running through the Antelope Canyon for the 50-mile race, including his mid-race beer break.
The graduate student in environmental science and policy frequently documents his adventures hiking, kayaking and also beer drinking on his website Unwearytraveler.com.
His travels have taken him from the American Southwest to Paris to Kosovo and beyond. But he has never run a marathon, until he decided to nearly double that distance by running through a canyon.
“I’m 20 yards from the finish line and I’m going to die,” he says right before completing his latest adventure.
He crosses the finish, where a spectator sees the beer in his hand, points to it and laughs.
“For real?” she asks.
“The whole race,” he replies.
